Found Photos
These interesting images, circa 1906, were found in an attic in Mount Victory
by Creamers. The images are from 6 x 9 plate glass negatives which were not
easy to make at the turn of the century. Several of the negs were broken.
Thanks goes to Jerry Gaukin who took the time to devise a way to reproduce
digital images from these negs. It would have been a real shame if these images
had been lost forever never to be seen again. The first two images show a
traditional 'belling' where newlyweds were put in a wagon and pulled around
town. The 'mail catcher' image shows how we used to get our mail. The guy
with the hook had to grab the mail bag hanging out of the train as it passed
by. I guess if he missed, you didn't get any mail that day. The belling is
definitely in Mount Victory but we can't be sure of the location of the other
photos - we don't know any of the people in the photos and we don't know the
photographer. If you have any clues about these images, please let us know.
