orblog
the orbit blog ...or
orblog as we like to call it ...isn't so much
about current hot button issues - instead, it's more about things, mostly diners, we feel
compelled to share.
orbit's fav local eateries
we love these independent places because they have
something people crave or a unique atmosphere ... and sometimes, both.

I'm a sucker for a tiki bar - one of the best is 'Sneaky tiki' in siesta key. there always seems to be a good mix of customers leaning over a cold afternoon drink. perfect.

Kenton's Midway diner is definitely worth a stop - it's so good people come in for breakfast and then return for lunch on the same day. standard diner food but some seriously good fish on friday. sit at the counter and chat with locals or take a table. Either way this is a small diner so you'll probably end up making friends by the time you leave. Don't miss the jukebox full of country & western favs. 350 west Franklin street.

Found not 1 but 2 good places to eat in Powell this weekend -
1) Liberty Tavern: I'm a sucker for a good pot roast sandwich and its a signature dish on their menu - definitely worth a try - plus they've serve a really good cup a coffee.
2) Local roots: grilled check bbq sandwich has just the right balance of sweet and hot and a super charcoal grilled taste.

if you find yourself driving i70 driving east to PA, stop at Mehlman's cafeteria in st. clairsville - if you've driven this route, you've no doubt seen the sign on the hill - stop in for a bite of this church-lady type comfort food you can't resist.

my current favorite sandwich in this entire city... Tip top's pot roast sandwich - high quality pot roast and a whole big gob of it with a superb dipping sauce. once you have this sandwich, you'll truly understand the definition of the word 'crave'. I've been putting buns aside to cut out some carbs but the pot roast comes on a pretzel bun that refuses to be cast aside.
close second fav sandwich? North star's veggie burger - I'm a hardcore carnivore but this veggie burger could make me reconsider - it has an awesome fresh grilled flavor and the ultra fresh bun.

• henry's - couple miles west of west jefferson on
old route 40
award winning homemade pie & thick homemade noodles to start. tip: order pie when you order your meal or it may be gone by the time you're ready for
dessert. it'll be easy to drive past henry's thinking it's an abandoned gas
station. it's classic diner to be sure. farmers just in from the field, neighbors,
friends and the like come from all around to get this home cooked comfort
food.
• wildwood cafe - Indianola ave in clintonville
fried egg sandwich & omelets that cannot be beat & their fresh handcut
fries are heavenly.
• villa nova - just south of worthington on N.
High st.
this is the definition of casual atmosphere - italian fare and pizzas are
the best. always good service + big screen tv AND the quintessential cocktail
lounge only steps from the dining room (yes, you can eat at the bar). this
place is always the default for anytime you can't agree on where to go or
just can't think of anywhere good.
• Papa boo's - on buckeye lake
when you need a smidge of warm weather wkend adventure, this place is usually
it. you'll see bikers, boaters, and everything in between. they often have
a live band on weekends - the best part is it's waterfront (rare around here)
including a dock. order a pizza, frozen daiquiris or beer and you'll be set.
mapquest directions, it's kinda hard to find but that's part of the charm.
• florentine - west broad
beside the fact they have an awesome sign, if you get anything besides the rigatoni ala-capri, you're crazy.
